I think AR has been moving things again. Unless there was one at Oxenholme in AR's day, the nearest cricket ground is at Netherfield, which is about one mile north-west of Oxenholme station, and is now part of Kendal. (Oxenholme is, of course, 'Strickland Junction'). I doubt if Titty and Roger would have been able to see a pigeon from a mile away.

Ed: Cricket matches can last one day, three days, four days or (in the case of Test Matches) five days. Sometimes a test match can seem to last all summer. There is a story of an American President (I forget which one) who when visiting the UK went to Lord's to watch the cricket. After watching an hour's play he asked 'When does it start?'
