You make some sobering, but no doubt accurate, points, Owen. I recall reading an article a few years ago which advised you to turn your head away from the fumes when filling your tank with unleaded petrol. The author actually recommended people to fill their car on a windy day if possible! One of the few (very few) consolations of getting old is that the long-term effect of benzene should not matter all that much. I have spent most of my life squirting leaded fuel into cars, and I may die of lead poisoning, but not benzene-induced cancer. Neither sounds much fun. Getting off topic a bit, so what about:

"Where at's Mr Turner's petrol?"

What was in the petrol of the 1930s? I shudder to think. Billy must have had a sniff. BTW, does anyone know what "at's" is short for? It can't be "at is". Billy is obviously asking where the petrol is . . . but "at's" ???
