The question of urbanity vs. rurality for the Swallows' home has been discussed before. There's a hint of conflict between S&A, where towards the end of the book there's a reference to 'going back to home and town and school' or some such, and one of the later books, where Susan says, possibly in relation to the D's, 'people oughtn't to be allowed to be brought up in towns'.
