Given the uncertainty of SA (selective availability) of 95% chance of being within 100 metres of your reported location (non-DGPS), I wouldn't want to try it on any body of water where you can't be at least 250 m from hazards at all times. If you use Differential GPS, that gets you down to 15 metres 95% confidence, but then you need to have two different receivers going. I'd rather try it with Night Vision Goggles for the helmsman and lookout(s)!!!
