I agree with Owen- much of the appeal of O'Brian's
Thank you Pam - but I am not aware of ever mentioning O'Brian. I tend to prefer Forester, who I think lies between O'Brian and Alexander Kent (Douglas Reeman). I think O'Brian's novels are over researched and under storied with Kent being the other way round.
Neither come near AR who was able to make facts interlock enjoyably and seamlessly with his story.
