O'Brian compared to AR

You really think so, Owen? For me both AR and O'B achieve this trick. First time round, I learnt a lot
of basic boatmanship with AR and I found myself learning a great deal about a lot of things in Nelson's
England thanks to O'Brian. For me, at any rate, the facts do interlock enjoyably and seamlessly with
Aubrey and Maturin's adventures
.

Many of my boaty friends love the books. The less boaty ones sometimes skip the bits describing fine-tuning
the boat's rigging!

It would be interesting to hear from TarBoard's old salts Andrew and Laurence. How do you rate O'Brian?
