But most of the other featured grown ups in the books are "just a little bit wacky"! Mrs Blackett and the Walkers seem to have a very relaxed relationship with their children (although I must confess my knowledge of 1930s parenting is pretty much zero), Captain Flint is most definitely not your average native not is Timothy. Mary, Slater Bob and the Billies are all presented as being unusual. The Great Aunt is an ogre; and my research into Cambridge in the early 1920s did not turn up many female chinese pirates. Really, the only entirely normal people seem to be the farmers and the boat builders.
