Welcome aboard, Luke.

my father, inspired by S&A, made my first tent. Working in the cotton industry in Manchester meant canvas could be come by, and a previous job in ropemaking meant friends who could supply cordage.

Slightly more modern as "russian doll" storing sectional tent poles were available from the YHA shop on Deansgate.

Lots of sketching out on graph paper and making models then set to with a treadle sewing machine. Several eyelet kits later (laced door fastening etc) ... success.

Lasted for years from around 1963 to 1985 when we were still using it for the cats whilst camping in Scotland.

Think canvas a lot less flammable than modern stuff, Tick wise maybe a spray of insecticide on edges of none sewn in groundsheet ?

For further inspiration :-
