The product that Andy would have told you about was Coelan, which is every wooden boat-owner's dream. It lasts and lasts, even on decks that live out in the Australian sun. It is thick, but elastic. It is, however, quite expensive, so be prepared for that. A cheaper product which I found good was Sikkens' Cetol. It comes in two grades, HLS and Filter 7. Put on two coats of HLS followed by two coats of [UV] Filter 7. Maintenance is one coat of Filter 7 per year.
David.
