But almost all watches since the one that Thomas Mudge sold to King George III (a very capable amateur horologist) as a present for Queen Charlotte in 1771 have had lever escapements! The pin lever escapement is the cheap one. A dollar (five shipping) watch would have had a pin lever escapement, a two pound watch would have had jewelled pallets.
