Having been cornered by Ted Evans and having agreed to give a talk at the TARS East Birthday Lunch on Saturday I put together some slides on the subject of Chinese piracy and was looking around for a good picture of Soong Ching Ling, who, with Lai Choi San, a lady pirate, is usually considered as one of the originals for Missee Lee.

Soong Ching Ling of course was not a pirate - she was the wife, later the widow, of Dr Sun Yat Sen, the first President of the Chinese Republic and died as President of the Peoples' Republic of China. But she did attend university in the States (Wesleyan College), corresponded with her sisters and friends in English and Ransome met her.

After much devilling around the Chinese Internet I found the very picture - taken at about the age when she met AR.
