I take it the average adult's age [the Walkers, the Callums] would have been prime WWI participants, matching the Altouyans and Ransomes. As Mrs Barrable was Mrs Callum's teacher she is older. She might be a Boer War widow. Or Mr Barrable might have been a non-combatant who perished in the 1918 Influenza Pandemic. Is there any indication she collects a war widow's pension?
