The upper reaches of Tilberthwaite Gill is another possibility (this isn't far from Coniston, up on the Yewdale Fells (the likely High Topps) and does quite well for he Golden Gulch as well (bearing in mind the drought!). It has a look of Swallowdale, has a cave, has reasonable waterfalls.

Most people point to Beacon Tarn and Beacon Fell as the key location for the book though (also near Coniston).
