I just obtained a copy of No Boats on Bannermere via inter-library loan and have started it. Early on I was intrigued by the use of the terms "grammar school", "county secondary school", and "High School (hat)" which didn't sound very British to me. Then I noticed the copy I have was published by W.W. Norton & Co., New York, in 1965 and is the "First American Edition".
I'm a little suspicious of Americanization (c.f. Scholastic and "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone") and wonder if this is the original text or if the terms were changed for an American audience? Can someone with access to the original book check please? These terms are all used in the first few pages of the first chapter.
