Joan Bodger wrote a book back in 1965 called "How the Heather Looks" which described a tour of England undertaken in 1958 based on a desire to see the locations of classic children's stories from Wind in the Willows to Camelot and Johnny Crow's Garden.
She managed to meet Ransome and asked him if Wild Cat island was in Windermere. He told her that it was in Derwent Water. In a later edition after she had read Hardiment and Brogan, she decided that he was trying to fool her, but perhaps he wasn't after all.
