Origin of Dorothea

Did we already discuss the origin of, or inspiration for, Dorothea? Was her wonderful imagination a character trait that might be considered overused, seeing as we already had Titty with the same?

Ransome's daughter Tabitha looked so very like the illustrations of Dorothea (huge plaits!) that I almost wondered if Ransome wanted to give his daughter a place in the books somehow. Tabitha had scorned S&A.

However, Tabitha's hair was very dark. We learn in The Big Six that Dot's was straw coloured. I notice too that Dorothea's head is not coloured in black in the "Airing the Fram" illustration. Most of Dot show her in a hat!

So it's a "no go" on account of the colour then. Any other theories on people/experiences that might have contributed to the construction of Dot?

DISCLAIMER: Yes, I know the characters in the books were not each based 100% on real people, etc etc. But you know what I mean....
