Just to add to Ed's confusion, even though we drive on the left here in UK, and tend to keep to the left when walking along corridors, there is an iron rule on the London Underground escalators: Stand on the right, walk on the left. Whereas in Australia, where they also drive on the left, they stand on the left on escalators and walk (overtake) on the right, just like road traffic.
