The use of that word was certainly not class-based language in the inter-war years. See the original title of Agatha Christie's Ten Little Indians for example. Indeed it was probably most widely used among those who had lived in the Empire. So while AR clearly does use language codes to show class, I don't think that term is likely to be part of that.
