Of course the pike's a fraud Peter!!

As part of my duties as the Joint Chairman of the 1993 Organising Committee for the AGM in Horning (the other being John Cowan of the South-West Region) we needed a room for the post AGM Committee Meeting; the idea of incorporation had not yet raised its ugly head!

So I asked the landlady of The Swan if she could help. She was pleased to and offered us the use of an upstairs room, at no charge, and at the same time asked me if I would like to take charge of the display case with its pike, which was by now just gathering dust on the shelf above the Bar, with nobody apparently, aware of its importance! Well, what would you have said? Despite its details being missing I knew of the pike’s provenance and accepted her kind offer, taking it home to do some badly needed restoration, placing on it the false details of its heretage. I reasoned that if people weren't aware of Arthur Ransome it would do no harm but if they were then they would realise the joke.
