Two further small points just to add confusion to Adam's concise post:

1. We do not refer to Soft-boiled eggs as such but call them Hard-boiled eggs! I think we do this on purpose - just to confuse.

2. To eat a 'soft' boiled egg you have the option of either tapping it lightly on its end and peeling a small section of shell away before inserting your spoon - or of slicing the top bit of the egg (including shell) off and then spooning the small section of egg out of the top bit. This is a matter of U and non-U, a subject fraught with such excrutiating undertones that I have funked suggesting to the now no doubt bewildered Japanese readers of this post which method they should adopt. Suffice it to say that the 10 minute egg is a much easier thing to handle physically (and no doubt socially) when camping!
