I can see as quite plausible the situation where Molly & Jim Turner were in awe of Aunt Maria, particularly if she had been around a lot during their formative years. Don't forget that this was a time when older relatives were 'Respected'. But a young buck like Bob Blackett, from outside of the family and who probably had the same spirit which Nancy developed, is less likely to have submitted to her dictates and devised some scheme to escape for some freedom in the fresh air, away from the drawing room piano. No doubt it was this same sense of adventure which encouraged him to teach his daughters to sail, and also to head for that greatest of all adventures - The great war.
