Sincere apologies to everyone for acquainting Tarboard readers with the news of David Towne's death in so incidental a fashion. Like many others I have not been able to follow Tarboard over the past few weeks, and this I think led me to assume that the announcement would have ben made during that period.
David died on Boxing Day, a few weeks after undergoing an operation for a brain tumour. He was at home, with his family. His funeral was last Thursday, 4th January, and there is to be a celebration of his life (in which his love of Arthur Ransome, and, particularly in his retirement, TARS played a large part) next Saturday,13 January, at 12 noon, in the Parish Church at Otford in Kent, St Barnabas (I think)where he was vicar. He was a member of the TARS Southern Region committee, and an exceptionally wise, warm and gently homourous person.
Otford is near Sevenoaks, near the junction of the M25 and M26 (from M25, leave at Jct 5 onto A21, then A25 and A225.)
