I spent a summer holiday in the 60's walking the dykes of the Walton backwaters and could find no trace of Sinbad's Creek ever having existed. In those days the bulldozer wasn't used to erase unwanted topography, e.g. railway embankments and cuttings, as much as it is now, so I guess that the creek was AR's invention.
Most of the channels are still remarkably similar to how they were, its the land, e.g. Mastadon Island and the area to the North that has mostly turned into mud and marsh.
