I'm interested by which books people have highlighted as their least favourites... A few of you have said Missee Lee, Peter Duck and We Didn't Mean to go to Sea. I actually like all three of them, and the last two particularly. ML and PD are obviously very different from the others (although the characters remain very true their realist versions) but WDM... is a REALLY good book. Well they all are, but it's wonderfully claustrophobic and that one chapter back at Pin Mill with Bridget and Mother is a masterpiece (and exquisitely timed).

Having said that, I can't pin down which my least favourite is at all. Possibly Missee Lee, but as soon as I've said that I'm thinking 'no, no, it's great!!' As a child I thought the 'let down' in Pigeon Post (that it wasn't gold) was just a bit TOO much and Captain Flint wanting copper all along didn't quite make up for it after all their hard work. But I've become reconciled to it with age and now it's one of my favourites.
