Probably purple laver (Porphyra umbilicalis). In Nova Scotia, dulse is also, if not popular, commonly enough eaten that it can be found in many stores. It can be mixed in salads, and is often eaten straight. Agar, used as a gelling agent, is also derived from seaweed.
