I calculate Ransome's Wild Cat Island to be about 200 yards long, and his lake about 3,400 yards. We are told in SD Chapter IV that the little Swallowdale valley is "...not a hundred yards away". I then went to PM which contains a full map of the lake on the inside cover. (The only complete map of it I could find) Swallowdale valley measures about 1/4", or some 100 yards, Wild Cat Island about 1/2" or 200 yards, and the lake 8 1/2" or 3,400 yards - give or take. I suppose this will drive purist cartographers and geographers to tearing their hair, but there you are.
