There's been a lot of leaping in with commendable arguments proving the young age of the Matterhorn trio - this is without doubt. The confusion all stems from my ambiguous message suggesting how romantic a mountain-top proposal would have been. My supposition was not, however, necessarily referring to the 1901 climb - presumably they went up several times more after this. I was merely suggesting the possibility of high romance - at whatever age and occasion.
It just shows the dangers of email - one has to be so specific!
