I have to share with Tarboard friends my amazement at the Lake District and especially Coniston. Having left my secure little kiwi pozzie two weeks ago and landing in the UK on the day of the horrors in the US, the Lake District has been a treasure of peace and beauty (yes even Windermere on a Saturday!)I've looked out over Coniston early in the morning and imagined myself at Holly Howe, and watched the 'windmillers' in Rio Bay. Ransome surely picked the most beautiful place on earth to write about. Sadly there is little about him here - a bit in the Ruskin Museum, something in Kendal(which we couldn't find) and a 'Swallows & Amazons' boat cruise - on Tuesday. Ah well, Ruskin and Beatrix Potter are thriving!
