I only had the courage to risk seeing if Swallows and Amazons was as good as I remembered after re-discovering Richmal Compton's William series.
William and the Temporary History Master yes, after 40 years I had remembered *exactly* the plot, scenes, jokes, much of the dialogue.
But I had forgotten the language: a children's book using words like "histrionic", "sycophantic", "inarticulate"
