Mike - if Ronald Fraser fits any viewer's conception of what Capn Flint looks like (and behaves like), then that person just hasn't read the books properly. Nancy's uncle may be many things, but he is NOT the ninny portrayed by Fraser (might as well be forthright about it, as it's a quiet Saturday).
If casting today, I'd go for Michael Gambon - he'd put the necessary steel into the part. Nancy would NEVER have respected the Fraser creation.
