Yes it is a Great Northern

It is a Great Northern bird from the Great White North. The Common Loon which is more prevalent in our part of the world than in Scotland (and nests regularly) is the same as the Great Northern Diver.
I have swum up towards them in an Ontario lake, close enough to watch them feeding their young with little minnow size fish.
The sound files are worth a listen.

I amuse non-Canadian TARS by showing them our dollar coin, the loonie and our twenty dollar note which has a pair of loons on it.
