Someone fairly recently wondered what the Swallows and Amazons would be like as adults. A rather morbid point of view is that John and Roger might not have been anything at all. They were both going to join the Navy, like their father. If they had done so, they would have been involved in the 2nd World War. It is quite possible that they would not have survived that war.
Did Nancy and Peggy have any friends other than the Swallows and then the Ds? I don't think you ever hear of any. No friends enquired about Nancy when she had mumps, they never mentioned friends with them on Wild Cat Island before they met the Swallows, and yet, they had lived at Beckfoot since they were born.
