I am writing a novel about a man who has a motor sailer about 30 feet
in length. The novel is set in the late 1930's. I am aware that the
English way of determining the size of a vessel is by tonnage. What
would the tonnage be for a 1930's vessel of that size? The boat I
have in mind has a petrol engine of ?? horsepower enough to drive
her about 10 knots. She has a mainsail and jib. Any clues as to
layout, performance, distance on one tankful of petrol, etc. would be
very helpful. I realize there would probably be a wide range for all
these answers, but that's all right. Perhaps soneone could point me
to a website for some of these answers.
Thanks a lot.
