" . . . not straight out of the lake, but boiled for tea." Peggy? explaining why the water cask became a puncheon of rum, in SA. So the A's also used the lake as their primary source of water. Boiling the water will kill off most/all live biological contaminants, and even now you'll find people (in the corporate sense) who will contend that mining and other such activities don't render water unsafe.
