Not really a ransome thread and our overseas cousins are probably scratching their heads, but I'll submit my 10p's worth on comics. My older brother took 'The Eagle' in the 50's/early 60's - Dan Dare spaceman and cutaway drawings of steam engines and rockets. Being junior I was bought a sister paper 'The Swift' The only contents I can recall was the adventures of Dixon of Dock Green! (Police Sgt. Dixon saves the day). To my chauvenistic notions of the time girls wern't entitled to these comics,( as I wasn't entitled to The Eagle.) So they had to make do with a companion comic called 'Girl' I have no Idea what it contained as I wouldn't have been seen dead reading it at that time.
Bunty from the same stable as Beano and Dandy was taken by my younger sister after the demise of Eagle and it's cousins. It contained heart wrenching tales of young girls having to put up with abuse from various tyrranical authority figures, in order to protect some other vulnerable person who had a guilty secret. Not a laugh to be had anywhere.
