Good heavens, did I really say AR's character of Susan was unsuccessfully fleshed out? (has an Alzheimer's moment)
I think he did a great job with the character such as it was. It undoubtedly pleased the female relatives at the time who bought the books for their offspring, because there was a native figure front and centre, making sure all the safety issues and domestic trivia were taken care of (although the absence of a toilet even in Wild Cat(Peter Duck)continues to amuse me.
However in the context of a child's adventure story she has always seemed a bit of a pill from the time when I first read them at around eight or nine years of age.
Like most I adored Nancy, but now I think Peggy has the most potential and of course Titty.
