Having struggled for a few years trying to get several mss. published,
I heartily agree with Prue. It's all the more frustrating when I read
some of the rubbish that is published. I write chiefly for the children's
market and take great pains to get it just right, including correct
grammar and complete sentences. Then along comes someone like R.L. Stein
who churns out horror stories by the truckload. Incomplete sentences and
poor grammar doesn't seem to stop him. I sometimes wonder if it might
be more feasible to circulate my ms. among a few dozen children and get
their criticisms. If favourable, I could go ahead and publish at my own
expense. Who knows, it might work.
