Mike, I think that crossbow is the one that Nancy fired from the stern of the Beckfoot launch as it passed Horseshoe Cove, so as to get a message to the Swallows even though the Amazons' activities were circumscribed by the GA's presence -- at Beckfoot generally, but indeed aboard the launch at that very instant as well.
