According to Dave Sewart in the intro to 'The Swallows and the Amazons' (Amazon Publications), the original Cape font was 'New Century Schoolbook'. To me, the Cape font looks like a variant of Baskerville. Fonts can vary in minute details, and to confuse things further, one printer's particular style of font may differ slightly from another printer's. My ARs are mostly 1940s - they were printed either by J and J Gray, Edinburgh; the Alden Press, Oxford; or Butler & Tanner, Frome. On close examination, there are slight differences in the fonts.
