Peter, of course, you're right, but the whole purpose of "duh" is to
mock or insult someone. I think it did start with the Simpsons, too.
However, If we're going to be upset at every little snide comment people
make, we would soon turn into a race of oh-so-concerned warm, loving
human beings, whimpering at every little jibe. As a boy new to Canada,
when someone called me a "Limey", my reaction was to hurl back another
racial epithet. If that didn't work, I usually followed it with a couple
of good, solid, British jabs to the jaw of the offender. That always
solved the problem. Of course, that was in school. No one calls me
names any more. This isn't really straying from AR. My reaction would
be the masculine equivalent of Nancy Blackett's reaction if someone
sneered at her. I have never been too concerned about being
politically correct, which I consider the height of absurdity and the
depth of folly.
