I think the opening scene in PP takes a lot of beating with the releasing of the pigeon. Titty's comment "Its Nancy". "She's beginning something already".
This is closely followed by the scene where Titty and Roger are left by the boat pier in Rio and Titty sees the white speck in the distance.
A splendid opening to a great book.
I wonder how AR would have treated the current English "summer" weather? Hardly a day goes by without rain.
