The smaller lakes like Rydal Water and Grasmere are well frozen. I walked beside Windermere yesterday and there is enough ice to close the channel between the north basin and the south. The ice surrounds Belle Isle and reaches across to the lake shore at Cockshott Point south of Bowness. Plans are afoot to bring ice breaking machinery to cut a channel to let the steamers into the south basin, at present thay can operate in the north basin only.. The ferry was frozen in the last time I looked. The live webcam at Low Wood shows the North Basin clear of ice at the moment.... http://www.elh.co.uk/watersports/web_cam.aspx
Seasonal greetings from Windermere.
