My wife and I intended to spend Christmas in our motorhome in the Lake District, starting at Ambleside, then moving to Keswick. Having looked at the forecasts, we decided to stay at home - the first time for many years - and thank goodness we did. The road north of Ambleside was flooded and the M6 over Tebay was unsuitable because of very high winds, so we would not have been able to get to Keswick. Also, the CCC site at Keswick is liable to flood in very wet weather, so would probably have had to evacuate the site. Still, we had a most enjoyable Christmas at home.

We will be visiting the Lakes later on next year and visiting yet more places linked to Swallows & Amazons

Best wishes to everyone for the New Year.
