I recently watched 'Saving Mr. Banks.' The whole film is about the power struggle between P.L. Travers and Walt Disney over the film 'Mary Poppins.' I was one of those who saw the film first, and enjoyed it as a 10 year old, but a few years later when I had a go at reading my sister's copies of the books, I didn't take to them. They were so different. Much darker. On the other hand, I watched the 'infamous' '63 BBC production of S&A, loved it, and also took to the books with gusto. Perhaps it was the quality of the writing.
