From Daniel (Lord) Finkelstein's column in today's Times:

"Amazon is offering the memoirs of Joel Barnett, Jim Callaghan’s Chief Secretary to the Treasury, for sale for £3,961.11. Although I am told that Inside the Treasury deals confidently with the history of public spending control in the late 1970s, this price seems a trifle on the high side. Especially as, apparently, the Barnett formula isn’t mentioned.

However, the book is also available for 1p, which is much more like it. £3,961.11 is only for a signed copy.

So I have now bought the 1p edition and am going to ask Lord Barnett to sign it. I will then sell it again. If he insists, I will offer Lord Barnett a piece of the action."
