Jonathan,

Gardner did not recommend WRC he says somewhere in his book that it was used.

It is used a lot for canoes, from what I can see from web stuff. The canoe stuff is as strip (0.25 by 0.75 inches).

I stare at the Gardner 14 foot peapod design most nights as I play with the drawings. My thoughts are also coloured by his words in terms of design. Hence my reluctance to broaden at the mast. If I was not building Swallow I would build the peapod.

I am set on white oak for the frames, but I will have to go to Paxtons at Austin to get it green.

I am going to have ring Paxtons to find out what I can get out of elm, cypress and the white cedar. If I want this dinghy to plane it will need 3/8th light planks. Theoretically it should in the right wind, just before the calcs say the mast snaps. I was going to get one inch planks and saw them in half to get matching sets on both sides.

Any ideas on a cheap design for a steam box?

A strop is the line that hooks onto to the traveller. (SA about page 14 as they first rig the boat near the boathouse.)

The rig is a dipping lug sail as exactly shown in the books. I have decided on about 147 sq feet, which is a bit bigger then Scarabs but I will have two reefing sets of lines.

Is the Mystic place as good as it looks on the web? Was Gardner as good as his books?

Thanks a lot.

John
