It seems fairly inevitable that similar topics emerge from time to time. I know there is an enormous wealth of AR-related things we can talk about but certain pre-occupations are bound to emerge. I've lost count of the times I've been drawn on subjects relating to class in AR and AR's politics (or indeed have done the drawing!) but as I'm only expressing an opinion each time and - along with ornithological preoccupations - it's the only thing I really know anything about (!) I'm always delighted when the conversation starts to turn that way!

I realise basic factual questions are a little different, but I can't imagine it really puts anybody out to give a personal answer on here, and there isn't so much natter on the board that anyone can get too worried about 'clutter'.

I think it inevitable that these topics will emerge every month or so:

- Real-life places from the books

[Although some suggestions probably are on FAQ - I haven't looked for ages - there are any number of opinions on this subject. Indeed it can often come up for discussion just because somebody describes Peel Island as 'Wild Cat' and somebody else will start making the case for any number of other islands, etc.]

- Real-life people from the books, or who characters were based on

[Any number of fascinating avenues to go down there...]

- Was AR a Communist/Liberal/Tory/Russian Spy/British Spy/fisherman?

[We haven't even got close to exhausting that one - although I'm slowly producing the definitive answer for a post that'll knock you all sideways!!!! ;0) ]

- What do all those ;0) type of things refer to?

- Something technical to do with boats

- Which of the books we like/ don't like - and why, etc.

- What class were the characters in the book and does this demonstrate any class snobbery / inverted class snobbery / anything else, etc?

- Did AR like jazz? Actually we haven't covered that one, but I'm considering an AR/Jazz/Sea Shanties post for the near future!!!
