The Government is trying to make us so, but there is huge resistance, It is now illegal to sell most things by scales set to imperial measure, but most tradesmen will still sell you a pound of whatever if you ask for it, actually giving 586 grammes.

However the pint was officially reprieved for the sale of milk and beer. The doorstep milkman leaves pint bottles of milk and the pub always serves beer in pint glasses. Only in supermarkets do you find metric milk and beer.

And even in France where metric measurements were invented you often can get 'une pinte' of beer.
