I have to agree with Richard. Children are generally not given enough credit for what they can accomplish. My two year old recently walked over two miles on the Appalachian Trail (granted it took us all day), not that I would have let him do it alone.

However, children raised in the outdoors understand and respect the problems that can arise. The children at our lake have freedom to roam over 100 acres by themselves, and they do, with the older ones helping the younger ones along.

The only criticism I have about Peggy was her lack of a PFD, especially in the winter. However, since PFDs weren't very popular then, I can't really hold that against her.
