In these parts of Texas, where we speak what is called Tex-Mex, and a fortnight is some abberation, and a stone is just a stone, and boxing day is some Canadian conspiracy to take over the world, the locals get real downright upset when I say Imperial. The usual response is US Customary Units. So I say the units were customary in England when the US was a twinkle in Ben Franklins's eye.

I also like dropping barley corns on them, rods, perches, and cricket.

That is of course the John Roger Thursday speaking. The John Friday is much more polite.

I also like to tell them my story of the ANU Geography Society Dinner in 1975. The Head of Department apparently was offended by my humour and told my girlfriend of the time such. But I could not repeat such a tale in this august setting, nor in February.
